The Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery The Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at the New York Head and Neck Institute is an integrated group of experts dedicated to the improvement of your appearance. The Center for Cranial Base Surgery The Center for Cranial Base Surgery at the New York Head and Neck Institute and Cushing Neuroscience Institute of North Shore-LIJ is made up of physicians and surgeons trained in cranial base disorders. The cranial base is where the spinal cord, nerves, arteries and veins pass through and connect the brain to the body. This team of experts offers the best diagnosis and treatment to patients affected by an area once deemed almost untreatable.

The Center for Facial Reconstruction The surgeons at The Center for Facial Reconstruction at the New York Head and Neck Institute are highly skilled in facial and skull reconstructive procedures. These range from simple scar revisions to the treatment of severe facial trauma and oncologic (cancer) reconstructive surgery. These physicians offer the most advanced, minimally invasive procedures for assessing and reconstructing the face and skull and improving impaired facial function due to nerve damage.

The Center for Facial Reconstruction's team of professionals was one of the first in the United States to be approved to perform a face transplant. This procedure involves tissue transfer from another person (called an allograft).

The Center for Head and Neck Oncology The Center for Head and Neck Oncology at the New York Head and Neck Institute is staffed by oncologists and surgical oncologists. Each is dedicated to the compassionate treatment of patients affected with head and neck cancer. They all have decades of experience with its diagnosis and treatment.

The Center for Hearing & Balance Disorders The Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders at the New York Head and Neck Institute is a network of acclaimed experts in the diagnosis and treatment of ear disorders. These conditions range from infection to complex tumors of the nerves in the inner ear, for both children and adults. This cooperative approach to patient care streamlines and improves treatment outcomes.

The Center is made up of otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat specialists) and audiologists (specialists in hearing tests and hearing aids). Some of the practitioners are leaders in their fields. Licensed specialists in speech disorders (speech-language pathologists) are also available for those with hearing loss.

The director was one of the first surgeons to perform a cochlear implant (a device implanted in the temporal bone that turns sound waves into electrical impulses so that the profoundly deaf patient may hear) in the New York metropolitan area.

The Center for Sinus & Allergy The Center for Sinus and Allergy at The New York Head and Neck Institute is a multi-institutional center with a group of different specialists who treat allergies of the airways, asthma, nasal and sinus disorders. The Center’s staff tailors both medical and surgical treatments to each person's specific problem. They put an emphasis on advanced techniques to accurately diagnose the cause of allergies.

Surgery on the sinuses and nose has benefited the most from minimally invasive procedures. This technique enables the physician to operate through the nostrils, making incisions a thing of the past. All of our surgeons are experts in these techniques. Many participated in developing them.

The Center for Sleep Disorders The Center for Sleep Disorders at the New York Head and Neck Institute is made up of world-renowned surgeons who are leaders in the treatment of sleep disorders. Many of them invented and developed minimally invasive operations and instruments to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and loud snoring.

The Center's physicians use these techniques to relieve airway blockages, curing OSA or the loud snoring that may precede or accompany it. These procedures include endoscopic nasal surgery and laser surgery. Both allow for a faster, more comfortable recovery than the older methods of tissue removal from the throat. For patients who do not want, or for medical reasons cannot have, a minimally invasive procedure, we offer up-to-date non-surgical solutions such as: CPAP, APAP (continuous positive airway pressure) therapy, custom fitted masks, straps, oral appliances and other alternatives.

The Center for Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery The Center for Thyroid & Parathyroid Surgery at the New York Head & Neck Institute offers a broad range of specialists who diagnose and treat disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. The Center serves as a focal point where patients and physicians may obtain up-to-date information about the management of thyroid and parathyroid disease in a clear, simplified format.

The Center is staffed by a team of regional experts in the fields of head and neck surgery, endocrinology (study of the body's glands and their hormones), pathology (the study of disease), cytopathology (the study of diseased cells), nuclear medicine (the use of chemicals that can be seen on X-ray after injection into the blood stream) and radiology (the use and interpretation of X-rays and scans).

Specialized care and treatment of thyroid-related voice disorders is also provided by our skilled speech-language pathologists. The collection of these different specialists at the Center makes it more likely the patient will receive all of the input regarding their particular problem to enable them to make an informed decision regarding their treatment.

The Center for Voice & Swallowing Disorders The Center for Voice and Swallowing Disorders at The New York Head and Neck Institute builds upon medical practices dating back to approximately 1869. Then, otolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat doctors) practicing at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital (MEETH) began to care for patients with voice and swallowing disorders.

Our experts in the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders use the most advanced techniques to assess and treat conditions. They include simple hoarseness to life-threatening swallowing disorders. Along with the physicians and surgeons of the Center, patients are provided the most advanced treatments for voice and swallowing disorders.
