Dr. Setzen received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He did one year of General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. |

He serves as a member of many Academy Committees, including the Rhinology and Paranasal Sinus Disease Committee and Physician Payment Policy Committee (3P).
In 2003, Dr. Setzen was part of a team of leading surgeons worldwide who designed the Diego Powered Dissector, a microdebrider used the surgical treatment of sinusitis. The invention won the Gold Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek.
Areas of significant Academic interest include medical and Surgical Management of Nasal and Sinus Disease including Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Rhinoplasty, Snoring and Sleep Apnea Surgery, Reflux, Sinus Headache, Use Cat Scans in an Office setting and appropriate CPT Coding in Otolaryngology.
