Education

Dr. Setzen received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He did one year of General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

Publications Dr. Setzen has been featured in articles in many notable publications including The New York Times and Newsday and has given more than 100 scientific lectures throughout the United States and Worldwide.
He is author or co-author of numerous papers, abstracts, and book chapters.

Previously an Associate Editor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Journal, the Official journal of that organization and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

He serves as a member of many Academy Committees, including the Rhinology and Paranasal Sinus Disease Committee and Physician Payment Policy Committee (3P).

In 2003, Dr. Setzen was part of a team of leading surgeons worldwide who designed the Diego Powered Dissector, a microdebrider used the surgical treatment of sinusitis. The invention won the Gold Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek.

Areas of significant Academic interest include medical and Surgical Management of Nasal and Sinus Disease including Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Rhinoplasty, Snoring and Sleep Apnea Surgery, Reflux, Sinus Headache, Use Cat Scans in an Office setting and appropriate CPT Coding in Otolaryngology.
