Dr. Peter Costantino |
Dr. Sen and Dr.
Costantino were featured in Discovery Network's TLC
(The Learning Channel) special "Amazing
Medical Stories". Part of this special depicted
a patient's dramatic surgery to remove a life threatening
tumor at the base of her brain. This non-cancerous tumor
would effect her eyesight and mobilty, and would
be fatal. Dr. Costantino had to disassemble the central part of her face,
to create a large enough pathway through her mouth to allow
Dr. Sen to successfully remove the brain tumor. Dr. Sen had to make certain that he removed all of the tumor cells because it could grow back, and she would be facing the same extensive surgery all over again.
Since the surgery was done entirely through the patient's
mouth, there are no scars on her face. The result is that she can return
to living a normal life, with complete functionality.
